BLACK LIVES MATTER
Music is Art believes that Black Lives Matter, however words alone are insufficient. We are taking the time to listen, understand, and learn from the Black community and have developed a plan that we outlined below to become a more equitable organization.
We recognize the need to look inward and pinpoint areas we can be better. This begins with a commitment to recruiting board and committee members who better reflect the community we serve and instituting an equity committee that will focus on steps we will take to become a more diverse organization.
We also commit to elevating Black voices in our creative community and creating equitable spaces where people feel comfortable sharing their art. We simply could not call on our community to change if we did not hold ourselves to the same standard.
Now is the time for all of us to take action.
LISTEN
We will encourage everyone to listen to the Black community and trust what they say. Listen to the music, experience the art, and elevate their talents whenever possible.
SUPPORT
We will support our allies in the Black community. We will offer opportunities to Black artists to showcase their work. We will promote their music and art and encourage others to do the same.
ACT
We will use our voice. We will join in peaceful protests, and advocate for what we believe. We will encourage everyone to vote.
Music is Art is committed to promoting equity within our organization and throughout our entire community because Black Lives Matter.
We see you. We hear you. We stand with you.
